WASHINGTON, Miss. – A former Mississippi governor could be named the next U.S. Secretary of Defense. Several national publications, including the New York Times and Politico, have listened Ray Mabus as a possible nominee.
Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel announced his resignation Monday, saying he would step down as soon as a replacement was found.
Mabus currently serves as Secretary of the U.S. Navy. He served as Mississippi’s governor from 1988 to 1992.
