A former Mississippi sheriff’s deputy has been arrested in Louisiana for impersonating an officer.
According to the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office, 52-year-old Edwin Silence was taken into custody Monday afternoon in the 200 block of Sunflower Drive. The investigation by law enforcement began after a stalking complaint was pressed against Silence.
“Throughout the investigation, deputies learned Silence made statements to at least one victim identifying himself as an out-of-state law enforcement officer, displaying a badge and wearing a uniform adorned with an agency logo,” a portion of a press release stated.
The investigation also found that Silence had previously worked as an officer with the Pike County Sheriff’s Office and Summit Police Department, both in Mississippi, but was no longer employed by either.
A search warrant executed at Silence’s residence found “several pieces of department-owned property,” including a pistol, handcuffs, and multiple department-issued articles of clothing. Two AR-15-style firearms were also recovered at the scene.
Silence was booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on two counts of fraudulent portrayal of a law enforcement officer.
