Former Miss Mississippi Holly Brand hit all the right notes on Monday’s episode of The Voice.
The 22-year-old Meridian native was one of the featured blind auditions during the season 23 premiere. After singing Faith Hill’s “Mississippi Girl,” three of the four judges almost immediately turned their chairs in favor Brand.
“I heard like a mix of Faith Hill and Carrie Underwood,” Kelly Clarkson, who Brand eventually chose as her coach, said. “We don’t have that really. We don’t have that kind of voice right now in country music, and I’m such a fan.
The one judge who didn’t turn their chair was, ironically enough, country music singer Blake Shelton. However, there was a bit of an awe moment when Brand revealed to Shelton that she actually opened up for one of his shows when she was just 10 years old.
“When I was 10, I got to open for you in concert. That concert was like the moment that I realized that I wanted to be an artist,” Brand said before showing Shelton the picture from the 2011 show.
You can follow along with Brand’s journey by tuning into The Voice Mondays at 8/7c and Tuesdays at 9/8c.
