JACKSON, Miss.–Former Mississippi Governor Bill Allain died Monday in Jackson of natural causes according to Democratic party chair Rickey Cole.
He was a Democrat and the 58th governor of the state.
Governor Phil Bryant on Monday passed on his condolences.
“Deborah and I are saddened to learn of the passing of Gov. Allain, and we are praying for his family and friends,” he said. “We appreciate his many years of service to this state and are also grateful for his service in the United States Army.”
Allain served one term from 1984-1988 and decided not to run for re-election.
He was 85.
