Former Mississippi Department of Transportation Central District Commissioner Dick Hall has passed away at the age of 84.
Hall was appointed Central District Transportation Commissioner by Governor Kirk Fordice on April 12, 1999, to fill an unexpired term. He would go on to serve as commissioner until his retirement in 2020. He was the longest-serving transportation commissioner in MDOT history.
Prior to his tenure at MDOT, Hall served for 24 years in the Mississippi Legislature, three terms as a representative and three terms as a senator. In the legislature, Hall was the House and Senate’s Chairman of the Environmental Committees. While in the Senate, he operated as Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee. He was the first recipient of the Hugh L. White Free Enterprise Award.
During his time with MDOT, Hall served as chairman for 11 years.
