A former Lauderdale County educator is behind bars for allegedly posting threatening language on social media.
The FBI on Monday launched an investigation into remarks posted online by 36-year-old Daniel Johnson — a former teacher at Clarkdale schools. According to Lauderdale County Sheriff Ward Calhoun, began assessing the comments after receiving calls that Johnson had levied threats toward personnel at an unspecified school.
Calhoun said no school was in any immediate danger, allowing authorities to thoroughly investigate without taking immediate action. After reviewing the comments made online, the FBI, Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office, and Meridian Police Department exercised a search warrant at Johnson’s home in the 1200 block of 64th Court.
The former teacher was arrested in his home. This was not the first time Johnson had run-ins with the law. Calhoun confirmed that officers had previously visited the teacher to discuss some of his tendencies to post borderline criminal content online, though no arrests were made until Thursday.
Johnson is currently being held without bond. He faces a maximum of 10 years in prison for his state terroristic threats charge. Federal charges could be forthcoming.
