Former Jackson State Football Player Travis Woods Shot After Party Near Alcorn State

LORMAN, Miss.–A fight about 2 a.m. Sunday ended when former Jackson State football player Travis Woods was shot and killed. Another person was also shot, but has already been released from the hospital.

Woods graduated in December.

Woods, 23, was taken to the hospital in Claiborne County after he was shot. He was pronounced dead there.

Two fraternities were holding the party, which ended before the shooting. The parties were at a local community event center. The shooting happened outside a store, which is not far from the campus.

This statement was released by Jackson State:

“Jackson State University extends condolences to the family of former student and JSU Tiger football player Travis Woods, We are praying that his family and friends find comfort during this difficult time. We are deeply saddened by the loss of a fine young man who had his life cut short.”

Woods was from Natchez. His last game for JSU was in 2013.

Claiborne County deputies are working to ID whoever did the shooting.
