Former Gov. Barbour’s Son Charged With Repeatedly Punching Man in DC, Says He Was Defending His Wife

WASHINGTON, D.C.–Punching a man repeatedly at a DC bar is the charge against former Gov. Haley Barbour’s son, Haley Reeves Barbour, Jr. He was arrested Friday after a fight and told police he was defending his wife.

WTOP, a DC radio station, reported that Barbour was charged with aggravated assault after punching the man several times. The police version of the story is that the man who was punched bothered Barbour’s wife, complementing her. Whether the comments were inappropriate or not, the police did not say.

The radio station reported that Barbour then made fun of the man’s hairstyle before hitting him.

Barbour claimed that the man touched his wife and that’s when he punched him. The radio station reported that police said Barbour’s wife never told them she was touched.

Barbour is scheduled to go before a DC judge May 29.
