TUPELO, Miss.–Former First Lady Laura Bush will be in Tupelo on Monday night for a benefit dinner.
She is the keynote speaker for the Celebrating HealthWorks! benefit.
The organization that teaches local kids about making healthy decisions with exercise and nutrition is celebrating their five year anniversary in the area.
“We are extremely pleased Mrs. Bush accepted our invitation to be a part of the HealthWorks! celebration plans,” said Dean Hancock, president of Health Care Foundation. “HealthWorks! has grown and evolved to become more than a school field trip, curriculum-based health education facility. It is also becoming a recognized center for children and family health literacy.”
As Hancock mentioned in their press release, they partner with many area schools to bring kids into their interactive exhibits.
“Mrs. Bush’s teaching and education background, her efforts toward child literacy and her advocacy of health care philanthropy matches perfectly with our hopes and dreams for this event,” said Hancock.
Currently the organization is in the middle of a $2 million capital campaign and the benefit tonight will go to that cause.
Over the past five years over 120,000 students and teachers have been to the location to learn about staying healthy.
Monday night’s event is sold out.
