The person once behind an honor society at a local community college has pleaded guilty to embezzlement.

Robin Lowe, the former advisor for Phi Theta Kappa at Itawamba Community College from 2008 to 2023, was arrested in February for stealing over $36,915 in public funds intended for the school’s chapter.

On Wednesday, State Auditor Shad White announced Lowe had pled guilty to one count of embezzlement and sentenced to 20 years in prison with 19 years suspended. After a year behind bars, she will undergo one year in an intensive supervision program and must pay $1,115.50 in fines. She has already paid back the money stolen, according to White’s office.

“My team will continue working hand-in-hand with prosecutors to deliver for taxpayers,” White said, per a news release. “This is how we’ve managed to recover more money over the last six years than any other six-year period in the history of the auditor’s office.”

White reminds people that suspected fraud can be reported by calling (800)321-1275.
