ST. KITTS- A former All-American sprinter for Mississippi State University and a 2012 Olympian athlete drowned in a swimming accident Friday.
Daundre Barnaby, 24, was training with the Canadian national team in the Caribbean when a strong current swept him out to sea.
Barnaby was swimming with his teammates on the island of St. Kitts when the drowning occurred.
Barnaby competed in the 400-meter sprint and finished sixth in his heat at the 2012 London Olympic Games. He ran for the Bulldogs from 2009 to 2013.
Athletics Canada chief executive Rob Guy called Barnaby “an outstanding athlete and an even better young man”.
