The chief of police in Flowood passed away over the weekend after what his department said was a “hard battle” with cancer.
Ricky McMillian was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer earlier this year before community members came together to raise money through silent auctions and other events for McMillian’s treatment. He died Saturday night, according to a Facebook post from the Flowood Police Department (FPD).
“It is with deepest regret to announce the passing of Police Chief Ricky McMillian this evening,” the post read. “He fought a hard battle against Stage 4 cancer. We know he is with our Lord and Savior, and our prayers are with his family.”
McMillian was tabbed as FPD’s new chief of police in 2018 after Ritchie McCluskey retired from the department. McMillian had previously served as a captain and lieutenant.
Visitation for McMilliam will be held Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon and Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Fannin Baptist Church. Burial will be held following the second visitation at Fannin Baptist Cemetery.
FPD has not yet released who will step into the capacity as chief.
