A Rankin County businessman who pled guilty last year to beating his wife has been sentenced to 20 years in prison with three years suspended.
Jason Todd Mardis, 54, was arrested in October 2022 after briefly fleeing to Tampa, Fla. Days before his arrest, Kimberly Mardis was severely beaten at their Flowood home with injuries including a fractured right ankle, a fractured left cheekbone, a lacerated liver, broken ribs, strangulation marks, and extensive bruising. According to a detective’s testimony, Kimberly was even missing hair that had been pulled out of her head.
In March 2023, Mardis violated bond when he was caught with his wife at a Flora steakhouse. A Madison County sheriff’s deputy happened to be eating at the same restaurant when he noticed the two dining together.
“On March 5, 2023, at approximately 7:00 p.m., I was dining at Bill’s Creole and Steak Depot, located at 471 Railroad Avenue in the City of Flora, MS, when I observed a male, who I know to be Jason Todd Mardis, and a female, who I believed to be his wife, Kimberly Mardis, also eating at the restaurant. I later viewed a photograph of Kimberly Mardis and can confirm she is, in fact, the female that was with Jason Todd Mardis on March 5, 2023, at Bill’s,” an affidavit from the deputy stated.
A Rankin County judge took that information and ruled to revoke Mardis’ bond, meaning he’s been behind bars ever since. The businessman and Capital Crusaders: Long-Term Planning to Legally Reduce Your Taxes Every Year author pleaded guilty in October 2023.
Prior to his arrests, he served as president of Capital Preservation Services, a tax consulting firm he founded.
