Mississippi officials have confirmed the death of a Florida man who drove his vehicle off a fishing pier along Biloxi’s Back Bay near the Palace Casino Resort.
The incident took place on Sunday around 9 p.m. Officials pronounced Paul Costello, 67, of Milton, Fla., deceased after his car was brought back onto land. The automobile had been submerged in eight feet of water.
Costello was reportedly staying at the Palace Casino Resort with family. He is said to have gone missing after leaving the casino to park his car. Police believe he was unfamiliar with the area and accidentally drove his car off the pier.
Per law enforcement, there was no evidence to suggest that the victim had a prior medical condition that would cause him to lose consciousness, nor do police believe he intentionally drove off the pier.
Authorities are still investigating the incident. No foul play is suspected.
