The man killed during an officer-involved shooting in Rankin County has been identified.
Justin Kitchen, 33, is said to have fired his weapon at law enforcement when they responded to a call about a man threatening members of his family. According to a release from the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office, the incident happened on Sunday around 4 p.m. on Walker Drive just off McCullough-McLin Road in Florence.
Upon deputies arriving on the scene, Kitchens allegedly shot at them. They returned fire, striking him. He was then taken to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
No deputies were seriously injured in the incident. The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation has taken over the case.
