JACKSON, Miss.–There’s no escaping it. You’ll have to take your umbrella and rain gear again today. A flash flood watch is in effect for a good chunk of the state and there’s the possibility for more severe storms this afternoon along and east of the Natchez Trace, as the ground heats up.
The word from National Weather Service Meteorologist Mike Edmunston is that central Mississippi was set to be the main target for possible flash flooding. The system that was bringing large amounts of rain during the morning hours could possibly stall.
“That’s bringing the concern of training of storms (over the same area), bringing the possibility for flash flood development,” he said. “This is like the first wave.”

Even after the storms clear out today, it’s going to stay muggy and you’ll still have a 50/50 shot at afternoon storms for the rest of the week.
