Flamingo Rapper’s Trash Talk Gives Way to Cash Talk About Legal Expenses

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The University of Southern Mississippi student accused of taking a flamingo from the Hattiesburg Zoo is using a popular fundraising website to ask for help paying the cost of his legal defense.

Devin Nottis created an online donation campaign with the goal of raising $5,000.  His bond was set last week at $17,000 for grand larceny, trespassing and two counts of animal cruelty.  Police had said new fraternity pledges were on a scavenger hunt and were to only take pictures of the flamingos when Nottis decided to steal one instead.  Zoo workers said the stolen flamingo and its mate where hurt during a struggle with Nottis.  The flamingo that was taken had to be euthanized and its mate died a day later.  A snapchat video has surface in which Nottis seems to be unaware of the serious nature of what he is accused of doing to the exotic birds.
