JACKSON, MISS– December 21 marks the first day of winter. The Mississippi Department of Transportation has released some safe driving habits ahead of severe winter weather to keep motorists prepared in the event of an emergency.
MDOT released a winter car kit checklist with the following items:
- windshield scraper
- flashlight with extra batteries
- jumper cables
- first aid kit
- blankets
- cell phone charger
- water/snacks
- emergency flares or reflectors
MDOT has also urged motorists to drive safely, buckle up, slow down, and allow more space between the vehicle in front of and behind you in order to allow plenty of braking space.
