New Orleans, La. — The battle for same-sex marriage in Mississippi continues Friday at the Fifth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans. The court will also hear arguments from similar cases out of Louisiana and Texas. A ruling will determine the constitutionality of those state’s same-sex marriage bans.
In November a federal judge in Jackson blocked Mississippi’s same sex-marriage ban, but issued a stay, putting same-sex marriages on hold until a higher court could make a decision.
Also Friday, the U.S. Supreme court will discuss if they will hear marriage cases from Kentucky, Ohio, Tennessee, and Louisiana in 2015, if any. A ruling issued by either court could take months, but the Fifth Circuit may not have a say if the Supreme Court rules first since they have the final say.
