FEMA approves over $10 million for victims of April 8-11 severe weather

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has approved over $10 million in disaster assistance for Mississippians affected by April 8-11 severe weather.

According to a release, FEMA has approved funds to help pay for uninsured and underinsured losses and storm-related damage to eligible homeowners and renters in Hancock, Humphreys, Hinds, Madison, Neshoba, and Scott counties. The total includes:

  • More than $5.9 million in Housing Assistance to help pay for home repair, home replacement, and rental assistance.
  • More than $4.3 million in Other Needs Assistance to help pay for personal property replacement and other serious storm-related needs, such as moving and storage fees, transportation, childcare, and medical and dental expenses.

Survivors of the severe storms and tornadoes have until Aug. 9 to apply for assistance. Applications can be submitted online at DisasterAssistance.gov, through the FEMA mobile app, or by calling the FEMA helpline at (800)621-3362.

To apply for assistance, the following is required:

  • Social Security number
  • Insurance information
  • Damage information
  • Financial information
  • Contact information
  • Direct deposit information

Per the most recent damage report, 13 tornadoes were confirmed with hundreds of homes and buildings being damaged during the April 8-11 severe weather that crossed parts of Mississippi.
