The Federal Emergency Management Agency will be closing its final disaster recovery center recently opened in Mississippi.
The center in Humphreys County, located at the county’s multipurpose building in Belzoni, will be closing down with those in need of assistance having until 2 p.m. on Saturday to visit the location. State and federal officials will be on-site until then to help survivors apply for federal assistance, check the status of their applications, and provide referrals to resources. Weekday operating hours at the center are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Back in June, FEMA officials opened the disaster recovery centers in response to a round of severe weather that pillaged homes and businesses across six Mississippi counties in early April. Since then, locations in Hancock County, Madison County, Neshoba County, and Scott County along with a different center in Hinds County have shut down as roughly $6.6 million in assistance has been dished out.
Though all of the disaster recovery centers will no longer be up and running after Saturday afternoon, FEMA will continue to receive and process appeals, assist applicants with questions, and help survivors apply for assistance.
Survivors have until August 9 to apply for aid and can contact FEMA by:
