Another federal disaster request has been approved in Mississippi.
The request made by Governor Tate Reeves, related to the February flooding of the Pearl River, has been approved by President Trump and the Federal Emergency Management Agency. During his daily press briefing, the governor stated that the declaration is Mississippi’s 6th in the last three months.
As a result of the declaration, public assistance from FEMA will be available in the following counties.
“Attala, Carroll, Claiborne, Clay, Copiah, Grenada, Hinds, Holmes, Leflore, Warren, and Yazoo.”
Mississippi’s delegation in D.C. supported the request for assistance. In a letter to the President, the delegation provided damage reports from the flood event that showed damage to at least 487 homes, 16 businesses, four farms, 160 roads, one bridge, and three non-profit utilities.
Damage in Issaquena and Sharkey Counties could not be assessed due to ongoing flooding. According to the Governor’s office at the time of the request, the damage in these areas will be assessed at a later date.
