Last month, the Desoto County District Attorney’s Office secured more than 60 felony convictions via the “November’s Feast of Justice” operation.
The office made the announcement on Monday, noting the mass of convictions was a significant achievement made by county prosecutors, investigators, and staff in “keeping DeSoto County’s neighborhoods safe and secure.”
A broad range of offenses was covered in the judgments, including violent crimes, drug violations, shoplifting, forgery, and other charges.
“We made it clear: we will not allow criminals to disrupt the peace and safety of our neighborhoods,” District Attorney Matthew Barton said. “These 60-plus convictions are a testament to our office’s dedication to defending DeSoto County against bad actors. Every conviction and every case closed means a safer community.”
DeSoto County, which rests on the northwestern border of the state and neighbors Memphis, has long shouldered an additional criminal burden of the larger city next door.
Roughly 30% of the 60-plus convictions secured in last month’s operation were Memphis residents, while another 30% were from other Mississippi counties or other states like Arkansas and Louisiana. One conviction was also secured of foreign national from Mexico.
“Our work is about more than just securing convictions,” Barton said. “It’s about protecting the lives and peace of mind of the people who call DeSoto County home.”
