MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Possible ISIS threats alerted the FBI’s Memphis Branch to send out a warning to local law enforcement Monday.
According to Fox 13 News in Memphis, the FBI warning read:
“According to an anonymous complainant, as of December 2014, ISIS instructed an ISIS member, a presumed [United State person] in Memphis, with a direct order to blow up the Memphis-Arkansas bridge on an unknown date, activating ISIS terror cells in the United States.”
Supervisory Special Agent Joel Siskovic, told NewsMS that the alert issued to local law enforcement was not intended to be released to media, and that there was “no actionable intelligence regarding an attack on the bridge,” but the FBI does take all threats seriously.
When asked if the FBI had reason to believe ISIS members were in Mississippi, they would not comment, but said the group does try to recruit from all over.
Currently the Memphis Division’s FBI Joint Terrorism Taskforce is investigating.
