Agents with the Federal Bureau of Investigation have raided the businesses and offices of Hinds County District Attorney Jody Owens.
FBI agents were spotted confiscating items from Owens’ offices in the Hinds County Courthouse as well as downtown Jackson businesses including Downtown Cigar Company LLC and Downtown Daiqiri & Pizza, both located on Pearl Street.
Sources tell SuperTalk Mississippi News that Owens’ home was also the subject of a search. FBI public information officer Marshay Lawson issued the following statement when asked about the raids:
“The FBI is executing federal search warrants at the multiple locations. The affidavit in support of the search warrants has been sealed by the court and so I am prohibited from commenting further. There is no threat to public safety”
Owens has since weighed in on the raids, noting that he is fully cooperating with the FBI and will continue to serve in his capacity as district attorney.
More details will be provided when made available.
