JACKSON, Miss.- The family of Otis Byrd, the man found hanging from a tree near his home a few weeks ago, wants more answers.
Lawyers hired by the family, Sweet and Associates, say they are hiring independent investigators to conduct their own investigation separate from that being done by the state and federal authorities.
“This family is very appreciative of the efforts of law enforcement, they’re very appreciative of all the efforts.” Attorney Dennis Sweet III said, “They simply and should, have retained counsel to make sure that we retain someone and take the actions necessary to ensure they get answers and full information.”
Sweet says family members do not believe Byrd died by suicide. Federal and state police are trying to determine whether his death was by murder or suicide.
Attorneys said the family has been given limited information and wants more answers.
