Starting today, Facebook will be alerting people who were affected by the Cambridge Analytica scandal. Last week, the social network site announced the number of people who had their data stolen was actually 87 million, not 50 million as previously reported by the Cambridge Analytica whistleblower.
If your data was among those stolen, a notice will appear at the top of your newsfeed. If not, there will be a different notice to check your privacy settings.
Last week, I was shocked to find out just how much information Facebook had been collecting on me. It knew my political leanings, that I was a writer, my hometown and where my parents live. It listed me as a “frequent traveler” even though I don’t geo-tag my posts!
This is information they collect on you that helps advertisers target ads directly into your newsfeed. If you want to see what they’re collecting on you, go to your settings, then select ads, select your information and click your categories.
You can delete these things by clicking the X in the top right corner of the topic box.
