RICHLAND, Miss.- Officials say there was an explosion at a cardboard box manufacturing plant in Richland.
They say the explosion was caused by dust from a broken hose and caused a chemical spill. Thankfully, no one was injured.
Workers were all evacuated from the international paper facility after the explosion occurred on Thursday morning.
It was reported that the explosion damaged tanks which spilled a hazardous chemical in the parking lot of the plant. Ernie Shirley of the state Department of Environmental Quality said that the spill was contained before it could spread any further.
There were a few small fires that were extinguished after the blast at around 12:30 a.m.
