JACKSON, Miss. — Joseph Paul Franklin killed over 21 people from 1977 to 1980. He was executed by the state of Missouri Wednesday morning.
Franklin, also known as “The Racist Killer,” targeted blacks, Jews, and interracial couples. His crime spree extended into Mississippi. In the spring of 1979 Franklin gunned down Jackson State Student, Johnnie Noyes Jr., at a car wash in Jackson.
Along with the death penalty, Franklin had been given six life sentences. He was on death row for 15 years.
