SOUTHAVEN, Miss. – Former Southaven Mayor Greg Davis is appealing a court order that he repay $73,000 to the city for his alleged illegal use of public funds.
According to briefs filed with the Mississippi Court of Appeals, Davis’ attorney, Michal Heilman, will argue that the judgement should be thrown out because Davis has already repaid the money he legally spent on city business and that charges on a city credit card were paid with approval of the board of aldermen.
Davis was sued by State Auditor Stacey Pickering for more than $170,000 he said Davis wrongfully spent on trips, dinners and other personal items. Davis paid back $96,000 but still owes another $73,915, including interest and penalties.
Appeals Court judges will hear arguments July 21.
