Ex DMR Leader Confesses

HATTIESBURG, Miss. — The former head of the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources plead guilty Monday to conspiring to defraud the federal government.

Bill Walker admitted that he and his son Scott spent thousands of the agency’s dollars on property the younger Walker owned.

Bill Walker was originally indicted on five charges, but accepted a plea deal, in which the Justice Department agreed to drop the other four charges.  The agreement would not keep Walker from living some of his time behind bars, according to Assistant U.S. Attorney John Dowdy.  Walker will be sentenced June 5.

Scott Walker earlier admitted to his role and is also waiting to be sentenced.
