The ex-cop accused of killing a nurse at a Jackson apartment complex has been taken into custody.
Per a report from the Vicksburg Daily News, Marcus Johnson, 33, was arrested Wednesday afternoon following a police chase involving the Mississippi Highway Patrol in Warren County that ended in Louisiana.
Johnson was the main suspect after authorities were called to the Tapestry Apartments at Northridge near Old Canton Road early Tuesday morning in response to a man being killed. Family members of the deceased later identified the victim as Carlos Collins, 25, a registered nurse from Yazoo City. Collins was shot and hit with an ax with the Jackson Police Department later revealing that Johnson, a former member of the department, was the suspected killer.
Johnson, who resigned from JPD in 2013 after being arrested in Ridgeland for careless driving and no proof of insurance, has been the center of controversy on multiple occasions. In 2009, he was accused of stealing a watch from JCPenny. Following his resignation, he was arrested for impersonating a police officer in 2014. According to officials, he pulled over a Jackson State University student and told her that if she slept with him, he would not issue a ticket. He was also found to be in possession of a stolen police radio.
Collins’ family confirmed to WJTV that Johnson and Collins were previously in a relationship and Collins had filed a restraining order against Johnson.
