Democrat Senate Candidate Mike Espy has agreed to a debate with Republican Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith. Hyde-Smith agreed to attend a debate hosted by Farm Bureau last week. At the time, Espy said he was considering the terms of the debate.
“I’ve said for months that Mississippi voters deserve to hear from all serious candidates on the issues,” said Mike Espy.“With this debate, voters will see a clear contrast between me and my opponent on the issues Mississippians care about, like protecting health care, funding our schools, and improving our rural infrastructure.”
The Farm Bureau debate is scheduled for November 20th, just one week before the Special Election runoff is set to take place. In a statement, Hyde-Smith said she is looking forward to participating in the debate to discuss the key issues and clear differences in the runoff election.
“This election is not just about me,” Hyde-Smith said. “It’s about what voters believe in, their values, and principles – and this debate will be a good way to highlight the differences between the candidates.”
While the debate is not open to the public, News Mississippi will carry the debate live on Facebook.
