The entire Shaw High School football coaching staff has been removed following an altercation among teammates Thursday night.
The West Bolivar Consolidated School District (WBCSD) announced that the coaches were removed from their duties effective immediately after teammates got into a fight during a game against Rosa Fort High School. The game was called at halftime with Rosa Fort up 24-0.
Additionally, all football operations at Shaw have been put on hold pending an investigation into the incident. The team will have to cancel all practices, on-campus conditioning, and games until further notice.
“We are deeply concerned about the safety and well-being of our students and take these incidents seriously,” Superintendent Dr. Will Smith said in a release from the school district. “We assure parents, students, and the community that we are taking the necessary steps to address the situation.”
Eric Henry will serve as interim head coach for the time being, according to Smith.
