For the first time in half a century, Entergy Mississippi will build a new natural gas power station. The new plant is set to replace the Gerald Andrus Steam Electric Station in Greenville.
Along with being the first power station constructed in 50 years for Entergy, it will also be the first combined-cycle combustion turbine power station the company has built from the ground up.
“As our customers’ needs and environmental factors evolve, so must our fleet,” Entergy Mississippi President and CEO Haley Fisackerly said. “We’re investing in cleaner, more efficient power generation now, to help keep bills lower for customers than they otherwise would be in the future.”
The new facility will utilize dual-fuel technology, designed to produce both natural gas and hydrogen energy. Replacing the new combined-cycle combustion turbine facility with the older steam electric station currently in Greenville will allow the company to significantly reduce carbon emissions while producing the same amount of fuel.
The new power station is expected to be completed in 2028.
