With Hurricane Helene not expected to have much impact on Mississippi, utility crews and contractors from the state have mobilized to Florida to aid in the aftermath of the storm.

Entergy Mississippi gathered more than 140 people at Trustmark Park in Pearl on Wednesday to caravan two states east with the goal being to help Florida utilities restore power as quickly as possible once Helene fully moves through.

Forecasted to make landfall Thursday evening as a Category 3 storm, Helene is expected to bring heavy rains, hazardous winds, and life-threatening storm surges to Florida’s Big Bend. It’s also believed, at this time, that thousands of residents will lose power upon landfall.

To aid in the process of getting the lights back on, Entergy Mississippi sent 141 people – including tool workers, contractors, and support personnel – to Florida. The decision to lend a helping hand is part of Entergy Mississippi’s mutual partnership with utility providers from neighboring states that allows companies to request help from other utility companies and return the favor when needed.
