Entergy Mississippi has completed the construction of a $37 million substation in north Mississippi.
The substation is a part of a major project, which included nearly two miles of new transmission lines, 12 miles of new and rebuilt distribution lines, and 74 new composite poles.
The project enhances the reliability of the existing transmission and distribution systems by providing capacity for future residential, commercial, and industrial growth in DeSoto County.
Construction began in April 2022, and the substation was officially put into service late last December. With a new amphitheater and several restaurants in the area, forecasts show the growth trends in terms of energy usage could have created overload conditions between nearby Greenbrook and Plum Point substations. Bringing the Snowden Park Substation into service alleviates those risks and improves reliability for all three substations.
“Northwest Mississippi is one of the fastest growing areas in the state, and we’re proud to be a part of the progress,” Entergy Mississippi president and CEO Haley Fisackerly said. “This new substation allows us to support and enable economic growth in the area and continue to provide reliable service at affordable rates.”
The completion of the product will allow for more power to be generated throughout the area without fear of outages or issues with the grid.
