HATTIESBURG, Miss.- Enrollment at The University of Southern Mississippi has dropped close to 9 percent since 2011, leading to necessary budget cuts this fall.
Total enrollment fell from around 16,200 in the 2011 to just over 14,700 in 2014. Budget cuts this year will add up to $5.9 million, which is about 2.9 percent of the schools budget.
Nine people at the university have been laid off with many positions being left vacant for the upcoming fall semester.
