JACKSON, Miss. – The 155th Mississippi State Fair kicks off Wednesday in Jackson. For some it’s more than about rides, games and prizes. News Mississippi talked to several residents who were hoping to get one of the temporary jobs.
Many had begun standing in line as early as 5 a.m. Tuesday and still had not spoken with a hiring manager Tuesday afternoon. “There were about 700 people here earlier; and so far only about 20 got jobs,” said one man who came to the the fairgrounds looking for work. “There really are no new opportunities. They (fair vendors) are bringing in people from-out-of-state instead of hiring us, “he added.
The fair’s nearly two week show is from October 1 through the 12th.
