The person who died at a Mississippi energy facility on Thursday has been identified.
Copiah County Coroner Ellis Stuart confirmed to WLBT that the death of Rodney Smith, 53, happened at the Hitachi Energy USA facility in Crystal Springs.
The report added that the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is on the scene, considering Smith was an employee at Hitachi.
Hitachi has since released the following statement on the incident:
“It is with great sadness that Hitachi Energy confirms the death of an employee on August 1, 2024, who was servicing equipment at the company’s facility in Crystal Springs, MS. We have been in close contact with local authorities regarding this tragic event and are fully cooperating and assisting with the investigation. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues. Our thoughts are with them at this very difficult time.”
