TUPELO, Miss.–It’s dry in north Mississippi. Maybe too dry. The National Weather Service has posted an elevated fire risk for the northern counties, especially for Friday afternoon and evening.
“When conditions become dry, we set the stage for that potential,” said Jonathan Howell, meteorologist with the National Weather Service. “You get relative humidities that are rather low and it’s been dry for several days before hand.”
He said that means you should limit any outdoor burning and be extra cautious if you have to do any.
Howell said winds won’t be high so if any fires do happen, they should be more controllable.
