The results are in. A special election was held on Tuesday to determine who would take over the House District 77 seat formerly held by then, Representative Andy Gipson.
Gipson stepped down when Governor Bryant appointed him to fill the position of Commissioner of Agriculture on the heels of the appointment of Cindy Hyde-Smith to the U.S. Senate. Five candidates took part in the race yesterday including Cliff Brown, Hayes Patrick, Chris Purdum, Cemper Scott, and Price Wallace.
Hayes Patrick and Price Wallace ended up getting the majority of the votes and will now head toward a runoff election on July 31st. Overall, Hayes Patrick came away with 34.1% and Price Wallace won 28.7% of the votes.
“All the candidates who ran for House District 77 are good people,” said Commissioner of Agriculture Andy Gipson. “Each candidate is to be commended for offering themselves for public service. Each candidate ran a good, honest race… Thanks to everyone who ran and everyone who cared enough to vote today. Go ahead and mark your calendars for Tuesday, July 31st when we will have one more chance to vote on our next State Representative.”
