GEORGE COUNTY, Miss.–A stand-off with police in George County ended early Sunday with a man who was suspected of shooting his gun off around the neighborhood dead. Deputies say they were forced to shoot when he came out of his trailer, gun in hand.
A call came in to George County deputies about a person shooting off a gun and when the got to the scene the man may have fired at the officers before running inside his home and locking the door, said sheriff’s dept. spokeswoman Shonna Pierce.
By 3 a.m. the SWAT team from Jackson County joined deputies and eventually pepper spray was used.
That’s when the man came out, but with his gun in his hand. Pierce said that was when deputies were forced to shoot.
Some reports say it may have been a Jackson County deputy who fired the fatal shot. Pirce told media the man was given several chances to surrender.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is investigating.
