Drowning on the Tombigbee River: Three-Year-Old Slips Into the Water

LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss.–If you plan to go to the lake, or a big body of water like a river, you’ve got to watch your kids closely. That may the lesson after a three-year-old Landon Henson of West Point drowned Sunday afternoon. The Lowndes County coroner called it a “tragic accident”.

Henson’s family were on a boat on the Tombigbee River north of Dewayne Hayes State Park about 3 p.m. Sunday when the child slipped into the water unnoticed, Coroner Greg Merchant told local media.

The family found his body a short time later and started CPR. They took him to a doctor’s house, which was nearby, and there was more CPR. Henson was taken to Baptist Memorial in Columbus, where he was pronounced dead.

Merchant said no charges had been filed.
