On Monday morning, Mississippi State Health Officer Dr. Thomas Dobbs joined The Gallo Show to provide an update on the COVID-19 breakout.
According to Dobbs, who is the state’s top health officer, the peak of the curve is just now beginning.
“We probably are really entering the peak phase, just based on the statistics we have,” Dobbs said.
With the peak phase coming to an onset, social distancing is as important as ever.
Dobbs also emphasized the significance of wearing a mask, even if you have to make one yourself as supply is rapidly diminishing.
“If you look at some of the countries that have done pretty well with it—like Singapore and South Korea—they do universal masking,” Dobbs said. “We’re getting more and more [masks] in, but it’s not going to be a sufficient supply.”
As far as testing and treatment, Dobbs agrees with the notion of testing as many people as possible since there is no vaccine currently in place, and chloroquine is “not going to be as useful as we thought it may be.”
