JACKSON, Miss. – Money owed to you by the state of Mississippi may be soon sent to your bank account.
Some tax refunds this year were delayed, the Mississippi Department of Revenue said because of their short staff and a new computer system.
Under state law, taxpayers receiving refunds after July 15 should be paid one percent interest for each month the return is late. Some taxpayers are just now getting their refund checks, but the interest has not been added on. The agency said it will do a review by the end of the year to figure out who may be owed interest; and those people could get another check later.
