VICKSBURG, Miss.–If you have papers that have your personal info on them, just throwing them away might not be enough. A good snoop doesn’t mind sifting through the trash to get credit card or social security numbers. To keep you from becoming a victim, the attorney general’s office is hosting two annual shred days.
The March 6 and 7 dates are the same week as National Consumer Protection Week.
Six locations across the state will have shredders available at no charge to you, courtesy AG Jim Hood and the Shred It company.
“Although identity theft is not a violent crime, it is widespread and serious,” said Attorney General Jim Hood. “Taking steps to shield your personal information that would make it easy for a criminal to steal your identity such as social security numbers, account numbers, and pin numbers is critical. We applaud Shred-It and our fellow sponsors for providing this opportunity to the public to be proactive in protecting their personal information.”
You may bring up to five large garbage bags or boxes of documents to be shredded. Additionally, Magnolia Data Solutions will destroy computers and electronics (glass prohibited) at the Jackson and Vicksburg locations only. This event is limited to consumer documents, computers, and electronics. Monitors and televisions will not be accepted. There is no limit on the equipment. No businesses please.
