Known as Mississippi’s Giant Houseparty, the Neshoba County Fair has earned a reputation as an election year hotspot, bringing local, state, and national lawmakers to the pavilion for political speeches throughout the fair.
Rumors had circulated that Donald Trump himself would make an appearance, but the fair council released a statement that The Donald would not make an appearance for the festivities, which start just one day after the National Republican Convention concludes.
Governor Phil Bryant, who has met with Donald Trump in New York to discuss campaigning in the Magnolia state, said Monday on The JT Show that having Trump Jr. at the fair would be a show of support.
“He’s never been to the fair.. it’ll be a bit of a culture shock,” said the Governor. “But we’ll put on a welcome for him.. show him this is Trump territory.”
While the Governor confirmed the appearance, Representative and Neshoba County Fair program director Scott Bounds said he had only heard of the visit.
“The governor must know more than me,” said Rep. Bounds. “I can’t confirm or deny it. I’m trying to get in touch with the people now.”
Bounds said that he had been told of a visit recently, but the concrete details had not been shared at that time.
