Last Thursday, Buddy was found severely burned. According to the Tunica Humane Society, the pup was found dazed and in shock on Peavine Road in East Tate County. He had an extension cord twisted around his neck and his face had been set on fire.

Buddy is in the loving care of the doctors at Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine. After much consideration, we felt this was the absolute best place for him to be while he recovers from his horrific injuries.
Buddy left Stateline Animal Clinic around 10 am this morning on his way to Mississippi State. He was in good spirits, wagging his tail and very cooperative. My heart is overflowing with gratitude to the entire staff at Stateline Clinic. They have gone above and beyond to care for Buddy in the critical stages, right after he suffered the burns to his face.
A special thank you to Natalie Hill and Patti Ketchum who volunteered their time today to get Buddy safely to Starkville. Natalie feels especially close to Buddy. When the call came in last Thursday about Buddy’s critical condition, I was out of the area and couldn’t go and get him. Natalie was the first responder to Buddy and she rushed him to the emergency hospital for us.
I have already received our first update from Buddy’s lead doctor at Mississippi State. His initial blood work after arrival looks very promising. A few things are out of normal range but not too concerning. He went into surgery late this afternoon to start the removal of the charred and damaged skin from his face. This will help lower the chances of infection setting in. The doctor also mentioned using skin grafts from a certain kind of fish. It is the latest technology and seems to work really well on severe burn victims. She did tell me that Buddy will probably never have any fur grow back where he was burnt but he will have a pretty, pink happy face and that’s all that matters. We still don’t know about his eyes or vision. It’s too soon to make that call.
Buddy is a fighter. He has shown us that from the very moment he was so cruelly tortured. He is going to come out on the other side of this. He will probably have to remain at Mississippi State for at least the next month or possibly even longer but no matter what it takes, we are committed to seeing him through. His life will go on and we will find him the perfect forever home.
