JACKSON, MISS– Prescription drugs are being abused statewide, and one way people are getting their hands on the meds is by doctor shopping.
“Doctor shopping” means a person who jumps from doctor to doctor, claiming certain ailments, in order to get prescriptions to prescriptions such as Xanax, Oxycodone, and Lortab.
Most recently, DEA agents brought down five people across Rankin, Hinds, and Madison counties for doctor shopping and illegally obtaining these prescription drugs.
This bust was part of a two year operation.
Some were also busted for forging prescriptions, or faking prescriptions in order to obtain the drugs.
